Twibes – hand picked tweeters

Twibes touts itself as a site that hand picks suggested tweeters for you to follow.  You begin by entering your Twitter username (and no password).

Wait, I spoke too soon.  After entering your username it attempts to connect to your twitter account which you must authorize.  Oh what I do you for!

I allowed it access and it asks you to pick the 5 people you follow that you find most interesting.  Now if you follow thousands this could be a hard step.  It brings up the avatars of each of them in a grid.  I went with TheSocialGeeks crew to see what results I got back.  You can also simply type in usernames on the right to speed up the process.

It then brings upn a page that says it will send a DM to those 5 saying I recommended them.  You can also click a tiny line that will allow you to send a tweet instead.  I am not sure what this has to do with giving me recommendations.  I couldn’t find any way around not sending some form of messages to see my picks.  I did see a button to edit the tweet so I made an innocuous one to get to the final screen.

Apparently this is to recommend people, not give me recommendations.  It allows me to enter my email to get notified when someone recommends me.  But all this can be done with the #followfriday hash that started up.  To top it off I got this error trying to finish the steps

Sorry. Twitter not responding. Please try again.

And I know it wasn’t down since I was using Twitter the whole time.  Ugh!

But wait!  I tried one more time and actually got results.  It shows who I voted for and then voting ratings of others I follow.  You can see who submitted them to follow which then in turn gives you people to look at that might have the same interest.  It gives you the top 50 that got votes from the entire list of those you follow.  Interesting idea when I got through the steps.
