Great tools, apps, and services built around Twitter

Twitious – automatically bookmark links you tweet

Twitious , by Develop with Style in about two weeks, does an inventive step by bookmarking your tweeted links instead of tweeting your bookmarks. I was able to find users already acessing the system.  They are built a homepage showing the number of bookmarks made, the tags associated with them and then their Tiwtter stats for number of followers/following.

Images are brought in for each site bookmarked to give you a thumbnail approach.  While not always perfect, many did help. I found user pages and a page with the most recent bookmarks made from all over.  It gave me hope that this might prove useful. But..

I am guessing that development stopped as tweets for the account ceased back in November 2010.  I would have written a longer review, but after authenticating with oAuth it said something went wrong and would never let me in any further.

ReadTwit – a cool way to glean links from your Twitter stream

ReadTwit snuck up on me and captured my attention quickly with the capabilities  it has.  Here is what it does for you:

  • You allow ReadTwit access via oAuth to what you follow
  • It finds all tweets with URL links inside
  • URL shorteners are put back into full links
  • All the links are compared and duplicates are removed.
  • The cleaned stream of links is presented in RSS for you to put in your feed reader
  • You can now quickly see all links shared to you quickly and efficiently

Just reading that, evaluate the benefit, I’ll wait.  I bet you already signed up.

Once I authorized the service, I was able to control settings and filters, which surprised me even more.  I could:

  • hide specific people
  • ignore specific hashtags
  • get the full or partial feed
  • control the time update

Quite impressive.  I could also place the feed into my reader with a simple click or choose to just get the feed link itself.  I moved it to my Google Reader and then use Feedly to keep up.  A must have for those that want to see links from your stream at your leisure and act on them.

TheTwitterTimes – a personalized newspaper from your account

TheTwitterTimes is a cool way to show off your content.  Some of the big names already have newspaper pages on the site.  You are allowed to make personal, ones based on media sources and one based on Twitter lists.  To begin, you sign in with oAuth.

Wow, ok, here is where it gets fun and interesting.  When I open the newpaper of a friend, which generates articles from links they posted, I get a true newspaper look and feel.  But, the sidebar is quite interesting.  It shows what friends have also tweeted that link and what friends of friends.  Allowing me to discover others that might have the same interests and I should be connected to.

Newspapers are already built around top media sources, and yes, some of them are real newspapers using Twitter now to send links to stories.  You can retweet articles right from the interface.

You can browse newspapers right away that are already created, yours (here is mine) will take about an hour to be generated the first time.

TweetMixx – More Links, Less Clutter. Filter, preview, and share links you really care about!

TweetMixx is a Twitter addon by the makers of the social submission site Mixx. If you’re more concerned with the links your followers on Twitter are sharing verus every tweet they offer, Tweetmixx is perfect for you.

Using Twitte’rs oAuth to sign-in, meaning no sign-up is required, the service hunts through the latest tweets from your followers to bring you only the links that they are tweeting. However, there is an option to see all tweets. You can view the original Twitter  message and a few lines from the link’s contents with the ability to retweet the link or respond. Also presented are retweet stats and Mixx details for each link.

tinyLinkFeed: Stop Following What’s For Breakfast

tinyLinkFeed could very well become your next quick dashboard tool for viewing twitter messages that only contain links.

tinyLinkFeed simplifies tracking links posted to microblogging networks like Twitter. The service resolves shortened URLs, making it easier to see what you’re linking to, and offers RSS feeds for following links with a feed reader.

While it doesn’t index everyone’s tweets you can do a search for quite a few people and receive only their twitter messages containing links. The service provides you with a short list leading straight to the resolved URLs and a list of the user’s twitter messages containing those links and more.

We’re hoping to see the service index more users and provide a way to track these users from one location. We hope you’re listening tinyLinkFeed devs! Let us know how this might help you better track information and people on Twitter.

TwittLink – the hottest Twitter links at that moment

TwittLink shows the link distribution for the most tweeted links across Twitter.  The main area shows the distribution of the hottest link in an hour by hour breakdown with emerging links on the right side.  it is basically a memetracker is a great interface.

This a great way to see new trends being shared across Twitter.  Theor own about section has a great summary:

How to use it?

If you want to see which news are the most discussed on Twitter in the last 24 hours, you should look under ‘Hottest Twitter Links Today’ section. If you are a journalist or a blogger and you are looking for fresh news, then you should check hourly the ‘Emergent Links’. If a topic has the potential to become viral, it will be marked with a ‘hot’ sticker.

So are you sharing the hoteest links or even starting a trend?  I wish they could pull that semantic information out also and show who is starting the link trends.  From any link you can open the statistics or send the link as a tweet yourself to join the meme.

WWWitter: See What Tweeples Are Tweeting About The Sites You Visit

WWWitter Twitter App

WWWitter Twitter App

wwwitter, launched just a week ago, is a neat little bookmarklet that lets you find out what other people on Twitter are saying about any website you visit (assuming they’ve said tweeted about it).

The app sports a clean but unusually large UI that we found to be a tad annoying. It takes us entirely too much browser space. Nevertheless, wwwitter does what it says it’s there to do, but pushes a weak delivery. Tweets have to contain the entire url of the site or page you wish to know more about. So any tweets using URL shorteners were excluded from results. That’s an awful lot of tweets!

UPDATE: Thanks to a Whitefox in the comments section, we now know that wwwitter tracks tinyurl and is.gd links along with the entire url of a blog or page. They’ll be adding more URL shorteners to the list in the future.

wwwitter everythingtwitter.com

wwwitter everythingtwitter.com

Thankfully for us our url is short enough for you to tweet the entire link as noted in the screenshot above. We really appreciate your support and excitement about the twitter apps we review here at EverythingTwitter. If you have any tips on new twitter apps floating around send them on over to us on Twitter (@corvida @idonotes) or email us at everythingtwitter/gmail. Enjoy!

Twitlet – javascript bookmarket for fast links

Twitlet is a simple way to post links by putting #link or #this in your tweet from a browser.  It then inserts the current page as a short URL.  Won’t work with clients like Twhirl and TweetDeck.

Also beware the warning on the bottom of the page, the bookmarket does store your Twitter account information in it.

TwitPwr – see what power your links have

TwitPwr is not only a URL shortening system, but also tracks the number of clicks it gets and how you drive followers to sites. From their own site:

When you use the TwitPwr short url service, we track the number of clicks that you drive via the Twitter API, and give your account a Power Rating.

Your Power Rating is not only the unique traffic that you generate, but it’s also based on how many Twitter users you refer to our service, and how much traffic they generate through unlimited generations.

They seem to collect a whole lot of information and make it statistically available:

  • Total “Twitter api” clicks for each link.
  • Site Screenshot
  • Site Traffic Data
  • Alexa Stats
  • Most Visited Sections
  • Related Links
  • Whois Information

I am not sure yet where their monetization comes from, but I bet advanced reporting tools would be a good start.
