MetroTwit: A Worthy Twitter Desktop Client for Windows (PC)

If you’re looking for that perfect Twitter desktop client for PC, MetroTwit is one you should consider.  Giving you gorgeous column user interface packed with power Twitter users features makes MetroTwit stand out in the crowd.

MetroTwit features a bundle of customizable notifications  with “toaster”, at-a-glance notifications in MetroTwit. If you’re using Windows 7 you can also opt-in to the message counter with Windows 7 taskbar integration. Adding your favorite Twitter list or stream of just one person as a MetroTwit column is as easy as selecting the pin icon when viewing a stream. Each additional column will be automatically resized to make room for the new colum.

After adding about 7 columns, a horizontal scrollbar appeared (results may vary based on your screen size). Once this happened columns stopped resizing automatically and I could still resize any column I wanted to create more space for better visibility. I’ve added 11 columns in MetroTwit with no problems.

When scrolling through messages, MetroTwit ditches the refresh button and instantly begins to pull up more tweets as you scroll further down the column. Not to mention MetroTweet offers auto-completion of usernames and hashtags! We definitely recommend trying this Twitter client out on your PC.  It’s truly a great Twitter desktop client.

Buzzbird was primarily developed for and on Mac but is available for Windows and Linux.  It is not a complicated client with a streamlined interface and not too many features.

Multiple accounts, the number of unreads and other features are included up to this point.  Scrolling back it is almost a year old and each point release makes some huge leaps in fixes and enhancements.  A client to keep an eye on for sure.

Seesmic for Windows Is Simply Amazing

Recently, Seesmic announced the impending release of it’s Seesmic for Windows twitter client. While this Twitter client is already available for your desktop as an Adobe AIR app, Seesmic for Windows looks to provide more value to PC-based users that make up 80% of Seesmic’s userbase.

This gorgeous application brings the best of Seesmic Desktop into play along with some nice Twitter feature integrations like lists.  Tabbed views making viewing all of your streams from various accounts and lists a breeze. It also helps to keepthe client free from clutter. The visual experience alone is vastly different from my personal experience with Seesmic Desktop and a welcomed refresh to the Seesmic brand.

Saezuri – A Beautiful Adobe AIR Twitter Client

Just about every Adobe AIR app you’ll ever come across will look great. It’s only right that Twitter AIR clients follow the same rules. Saezuri is no exception!

Available for Linux, Windows, and Mac, Saezuri is a stunning new Adobe AIR Twitter client. It’s also one of the first AIR clients to support Twitter’s oAuth for logging in. What does this mean? You don’t have to hand over your credentials. In fact, once you allow Saezuri access to your Twitter account a pin is generated that allows you to log-in to your Twitter account.

Saezuri is lightweight, lightening fast, with access to multiple accounts, search, and other default Twitter features…except lists. It even provides a few nice custom themes, known as Skins, to customize Saezuri to match your desktop or your style.  You can also tweak how often this Twitter client accesses your timeline for updates.

Bluto – Twitter with Lotus Connections in one client

Bluto is an app that grew out of IBM, based on Adobe Air, that combines Twitter and Lotus Connections feeds into a single client.  You can cross point to both or choose a single site to post to.  The basics are there, like follow, unfollow, retweet and reply.  More advanced features are not, and likely won’t be coming as this was just placed out on a whim with no promise of updates.

IBM runs their own internal Twitter like system called BlueTwit, but with the inclusion of microblogging capabilities in Lotus Connections, a client like this was needed.  You can see more of a review from the  IdoNotes blog.

Twittm – another Adobe Air client

They seem to be popping up non-stop, Adobe Air clients.  Twittm looks like the rest and didn’t list anything abut features, so we will just lump it in for now.

T-Messenger : a simpler Air app for Twitter

T-Messenger tags itself as the Twitter client for the everyday user.  While it is based on Adobe Air, they went for the approach that you have basic needs and some other functions to be productive using Twitter.  The other tools are for the power users and more.  After reading and seeing it, the client did more than everyday use:

  • Threaded conversations
  • Groups
  • Filtering
  • Drag and drop photos
  • Breaking long tweets across multiple ones
  • URL shorteners

Twitteron – a skinnable Air client for Twitter

Twitteron is a nice UI that is skinnable with numerous features inside.  The site lists most of the features:

* The ability to run on any OS that supports Adobe AIR
* A smooth, and rich graphical interface
* Browser-like navigation, with back, forward and refresh capability
* One-click access to uploading pictures to TwitPic!
* One-click access to shrinking links
* The ability to search all of twitter with the built in search box!
* The ability to see larger pictures of friends/followers of yours and others!
* Notification capability, with fine tuning of the rate of requests
* Display of your rate limit, along with the reset time
* Adjustable TwitPic/Photo sizes
* Choose an endless amount of colors with custom hue/saturation/lightness sliders
* Custom search notifications!

Twitpics are all rendered inline, no more jumping out to a webpage or relying in popups.  That was about the whole list.  I did not load the client but a live stream (using tweetgrid) showed numerous people talking about it.  Most good, some were not happy.  Remember this is still in beta, with no updates since May, which worries me.
