Tweetspinner – rotate avatars, clean your DM’s and follower management

Tweetspinner is a web based application with a few little tricks inside.  They do require their own login to get started, which can be different than your Twitter credentials.  Note the little checkbox to skip adding yourself to their mailing list.  You provide an email address and password to gain access to the interface.

You can add multiple Twitter accounts to their system, using oAuth for each.  The catch is that there is different levels of capabilities depending on what service you choose.  You come in as basic level, with some limits in capabilities.

I was totally unsware of this when I first entered the system.  Costs are free/$15 month/$21 month to pro (no price listed).  You can add more Twitter acocunts with each level as well as filters, pruning and more.

There is no way to delete your account either, which I found interesting.  FOr some reason I decided not to move on due to these facts.

Discover Your Twitter Birthday Using TwBirthday

If you’re curious to know when someone first signed-up for Twitter or even how long you’ve been on yourself, look no further than TwBirthday. Simply type in any Twitter handle and TwBirthday will give you the Twitter birthdate for the username you entered. In addition, Twbirthday suggests who might’ve “godfathered” or introduced this person to Twitter, their age index, and a break down of just how long a Twitter account has been active.

TwBirthday

This may seem like useless information at first glance, but marketers and those looking for further demographics on their Twitter followers might find this tool to be beneficial. Also, if you’re not sure if a Twitter account is a scam artist or a real person, knowing how long the account has been open can help you find out. And if you’re simply trying it out for fun, don’t forget to celebrate your Twbirthday when it comes!

Twilk – your friend’s faces on your Twitter background

Twilk is a service that allows you to creatively use your followers avatars. In fact, Twilk will make a Twitter background using the avatars of your followers. Simply sign-in to allow Twilk to grab your follower avatars and click “use background” once Twilk is done. A preview of the avatars will be displayed beforehand. The background will also feature a Twilk ad, which you have to pay to remove.

Choose between the people you follow and the people that follow you, or a 2 column and even black and white only background.  There are numerous choices.  To change the background you must revisit the site, it does not update automatically as you change who you follow or as new people follow you.

I was about to ask how placement is done for the background and they had the answer right there on the main page!

How are people arranged on the background?

People are sorted by how much you mention their user name ( @ replies, retweets, etc ) in your Twitter feed. It goes from top to bottom starting in the first two columns on the left. If you mention people the same amount (or not at all), the order of those people will be random.

Twibbon – promote awareness on Twitter

Twibbon overlays a small icon on your profile image to show support for some cause, organization, product or movement.  Once you affiliate with something it does use your account to send a notice out to al of your followers, so be careful what you choose.

You can find trending causes if you just have to show support for something hot, or even create your own movement.  For the geeks, there is a whole technology area and some recent ones are Android, Ubuntu, Lotus Notes and even Python.  Why not grow someones else’s product?

Seriously, we do see value in using your avatar speak for a cause and showing support in any way you can.  It would be nice if it cost a dollar or so to use the service and proceeds were donated to that very cause.

Twitlay – Twitter background creator

We have highlighted numerous Twitter background tools (see the Profile Customization category), Twitlay follows right along allowing you to upload an image, add text and instantly make it your background.

Of course, they will also design a custom background for $50, but you are after the free ones first.  Categories run down the right, but you haw to fight your way through the ads to find much of anything, including the background creator at the bottom.  Which is really a Google ad that blends in.

If they streamlined the ad placement and cleaned up the busy UI, it would be another place to point you for backgrounds.

Avartize – pimp your Twitter avatar

Avartize is a cool service that allows you to put layers on your avatar to show a change in status (like meeting, away or whatever) or simply support a good cause.

The steps to engage with the service were easy.  Simply log in, choose an overlay and then change it!  You can always revert to the original avatar (reset feature) from their system as well as change the overlay itself.

They have a tab showing the recent overlays and most seem to be the flames or small logos in the corner.  If you want to make changes often to your avatar this might be the service for you.

Some of the requirements:

  • They have their own login system so you will need to create an account.
  • You will need to provide your Twitter credentials so they can work with your avatar
  • You will need some transparent images to make overlays work well, if you don’t want their pre-configured ones
  • Do not use copyrighted or trademarked materials
  • Don;t have bad karma or they may cancel your account :-) (it really says that in the Terms of Service)

Twitrounds – free backgrounds for your Twitter page

Twitrounds is a large collection of free backgrounds.  You can use their installer for automatic changes to your background or download the image and do it manually.

Each background shows the statistics of the number of views and ratings.  When utilizing the automatic updating, you can choose whether or not to automatically follow Twitrounds as well as when it was added to the collection.

Lastly for the manual installers, they give you all the color settings you need with the download of the background itself.  If these all remain free and the site ad driven, it will be a great resource.  I didn’t see a count of the total number they have available, but it looked like a decent selection.

Update from the site founder!

Some other extra information in case you were interested:

  • A little over 300 free backgrounds and we add between 5-10 backgrounds a day
  • We are about to launch a Custom Twitter Background section for $79 per background
  • Auto-Install tool that makes it super easy to install backgrounds
  • We do take requests for community backgrounds if people follow us and tweet @ us

TweetPsych – build a psychological profile of a tweeter

TweetPsych is yet another Dan Zarrella masterpiece.  This time the product prefers to analyze the last ~1000 tweets from a single person that just does not pump news feeds into a Twitter stream.  From there is does quite a bit of analysis:

…uses two linguistic analysis algorithms (RID and LIWC) to build a psychological profile of a person based on the content of their tweets

I ran it against myself as usual and never cease to be surprised by any results any of these services send back.

Tweetbacks – (yes another one) Twitter backgrounds

Tweetbacks (we did the same name earlier today, entirely different product) is a gallery of Twitter backgrounds for you to download and utilize.  You can also upload backgrounds if you have done something amazing, or even if it isn’t.

There was some cool ones to see and the site is ad driven on the right.   Each background can have a rating, but since the site is new many didn’t have them yet.  There is a link for the free customizable ones, but it was very limited in depth compared to the others we have (see the Profile Customization Tools category).

They do have a RSS feed to subscribe when new backgrounds are loaded into the site to keep you up to date also.
