Great tools, apps, and services built around Twitter

Twadges – yes some damn Twitter badges

Twadges, you knew it had to be coming.  Badges for Twitter.  You earn Twadges based on numerous measurements they make up.  From the number of types of Twitter clients you have used, to the number of followers your account has (I need another level for a new Twadge.  Even the EverythingTwitr account does).  A bonus badge and points is even there for you early adopters that joined before Oprah.

I won’t go into why these are totally unnecessary, I will leave that for TheSocialNetworker blog posting coming out at the same time.  There are over 60 twadges to earn, simply by entering your Twitter username.  No password or login required, which is a bonus.  So if you have a private stream it will have trouble generating most all of them.

So go have some fun and disappoint yourself in the number of points and badges you earn from Twadges.

Unmasker: Find Out Who Your Twitter Followers Really Are!

Who’s in it for the conversations and who’s in it for the money when it comes to your followers on Twitter? Unmasker is a neat game that tells it like it is. Based on the bio of Twitter users, find out if they’re ” evil bandwagon riders ” or angels (read: original).

Can you guess what Chris (@idonotes) and I (@corvida) are?

Unmasker attempts to expose those people who write generic, disingenuous crap in their Twitter bio.

Original, honest bios go to heaven, buzzword laden rubbish is sent to hell.

TwitPaint – paint graffiti on Twitter

TwitPaint let’s you express yourself in graffiti instead of just 140 characters.  You can view samples of work done on the homepage or log in with your Twitter credentials to start creating your own.

Choose the brush width, opacity and color while working with your drawing.  You then type a comment about your drawing and send it as a tweet.  You must make the message around 100 characters to allow for the URL to fit before sending. Each brush stroke counted as a character when I did a sample.

You can view all your graffiti or everyone’s by language area before letting others in on the fun.

Your followers can remix and update your work by doing the same thing with a reply @you.

Peek at the site to see some of the creative work.

Oversharers – when you say too much on Twitter

With the holiday weekend we need to read something fun like Oversharers.  It is a simple site.  not really a tool that shows off the gross and embarassing postingts some people make into the public stream.  The list is long, funny and sometimes gross.

Please, let’s be careful out there.

P.S. I listed this under games, since it really is not an add-on tool)

TweetMyGaming – realtime gaming trends on Twitter

TweetMyGaming caught my off-guard since I had never heard of it.  The UI is a little busy but they are doing exactly what they intend.  You can search for any game you want to see trending information, or just sit back and watch the live updating stream from Twitter based on keyword searches for games.

Down the right side is a list of the most talked about games, with a trending graph for the past 24 hours (default), 7 days, 30 days or all time.  It is a good site for gamers to see what game is hot right now.

Just in the time I wrote this post, I was amazed at the real time stream as it scrolled at a decnt rate, letting you know plenty of people are out there gaming away.

AwesomeUpdater – get tweets on how awesome you are

AwesomeUpdater makes you feel good about yourself by sending random @ replies to you saying how cool and great you are.  You can then just smile or retweet them.  The algorithm is randomized so you never know when they will come or how often.  But definitely not everyday.

Just a fun one to add to the list

Tweefight – name your challenger

Tweefight, which relies on Tweerank to build the data, let’s you have some fun by putting any two twitter id’s against each other.  It then computes the winner based on the following:

# followers
# following
# of tweets
# of RT he/she receives
# of replies
# of distinct users who reply
# of distinct users who retweet
# of RT the user makes
# of links the user shares
# …more

The fun part is to make some money on the site, they allow you to buy (for under a buck) some added powers to help you win.  Now i you put in some name that is a beginer in Twitter versus, oh Oprah, we know the outcome already.  But when they are close in friends and followers it gets interesting.

They let you see the World Champion (Zaibatsu right now), Top 20, Hall of Fame and even your own stats page.  Give it a shot.

TweetingTooHard – making fun of self loving tweets

TweetingTooHard (via @NikkiPilkington today) made me laugh right away.  It allows you to nominate and see tweets where the person tweeting basically talks about how good they are.

From money, to looks to just plain self loving.  You can retweet/reshare your favorites and even follow that person via xml (RSS) feeds.  Commenting on each tweet is also allowed.  You can see the following:

  • whats hot
  • top ranked
  • random
  • newly added

To rate each one, you give it a backpat, or virtual pat on the back to that person.  The number one ranked tweet shows the person saying the more popular they get the more people hate them.

Humorously, FeaturedUsers (that we talked about yesterday) is a sponsor on this site and runs ads.  I also entered this posting under games, because it isn’t a tool, it is just fun.

Tweeji – follow dead celebrities on Twitter?

Tweeji is as confusing as the name.  Someone is posting as a dead celebrity and you are to follow them to see what the dead person might say in this current day and time.  It has RSS, sharing abilities and everything else.  They seem to adding dead people quite frequently and one of the most followed is Notorious BIG.  Good choice even though the tweets are all over the place.

I am listing this under games. If you want to know why the folow me when they list me on Tweeji someday.

Twittas – your collection of fun Twitter tools

Twittas has quite the collections of fun Twitter tools to play with.  I went in and tested most of the following.  Seeing the projection of when you hit 1,000,000 followers is eye opening.  So here is the list:

  • firsttweet – self explanatory, see what the first tweet was from anyone
  • wastedtime – see how much time you waste tweeting
  • twittercar – see how fast you tweet
  • 1millionfollowers – how long till you hit the magic million (and hundred thousand)
  • firstfollowers – who were your first followers
  • popefollow – see if you have more followers than the Pope
  • first – who did you follow first on Twitter
  • mapfriends – see those you follow on a map
  • twebuddies – see you who interact with most
  • mapfollowers – see those that follow you on a map
  • longerthancelebs – see how long you have been on Twitter and how much longer than what celebrities

The site is ad driven all over, but it isn’t a big deal to do what you want and ignore them as necessary.
