Great tools, apps, and services built around Twitter

Packrati.us – send your shared links to Delicious automatically

Have you been sharing links on Twitter and not saving them anywhere else?  You soon realize that Twitter does not keep your history forever.  So Packrati.us will automatically follow your Twitter feed and bookmark your shared links into your Delicious account (I prefer Diigo for bookmarks however).

You log in via oAuth, and they rely heavily on you merging your Yahoo and Delicious accounts as well.  So make sure you have that in place.  The FAQ covers it quite well on the site.

This is a great way to keep track.  You could even establish an account on Delicious for just your Twitter feed to split shared links from your personal bookmarks.  Any way you look at it, pretend it is a backup service for your shared links.

ManageFlitter – fast and easy unfollowing

ManageFlitter greets you with a simple page asking you to connect to Twitter via oAuth to “take a look”.  Nothing more is provided on the page and no help link or about page was linked.

After approving the oAuth, it scans your tweets and followers and begins showing who has been quiet, inactive, missing profile images and more.  You can search bios, tweets and more.  Select everyone to unfollow them immediately and deselect verified accounts and popular liked.

You are able to see the number of people that unfollowed you with the tool as well as download a csv file of everyone you follow.

In all a great tool but the UI is unclear in how to best work it.  There was a link for a dashboard, where I had high expectations.  I think with some UI changes this can be an effective tool.  As well as a link to information from the splash page would be welcomed.

SwearJarr – swear on Twitter and pay the jar

SwearJarr is a unique idea that asks those that swear on Twitter to donate to the jar.  The money raised is split between two charities each month.  According to the statistics they collected, over 425,000 swear words a day cross the public stream.

Now they cannot force you to donate, but allow you to search your stream and give suggestions as well as prompt others.  The top swearing celebrities are listed on the bottom right and you are free to check anyone with a public stream.

Donations collected have a small 7.5% fee to SwearJarr for hosting, credit card fees and over all administration.  Not bad at all since the rest goes to charity.

Ttrst.me – user reputation grader

Trst.me (from Infochimps) relies on calculating user reputation instead of just seeing how many followers they have as a deciding factor.  The first thing I noticed about how they compile the information is that they have been compiling Twitter information since 2008 using the API.  This gives them a good base to begin measurement.

You enter a username into the single box on the page to have it compute a score ranking of 1-10.  Our president of the US holds the highest rating at 9.9, which is .2 higher than CNN.  But Ellen Degeneres and Shaq are not far behind.  Scary isn’t it?

They also give a good comparison of their service and other Twitter user ranking services and how they differ.

Don’t worry, you won’t rank as high as you hope.
